House Halmerweg

In 2002 the House Halmerweg was moved into anew. 16 people with a mental disability are living together here, on two levels. For every need there is the proper individual support and nursing.

The team consists of qualified and long-time experienced specialists. Besides the daily pedagogic and caregiving work, the support of the individual shaping of one´s life receives much attention. Along with helping to find suitable leisure time activities the employees enable the inhabitants to enjoy themselves and feel at home in the group.

At the weekends there are trips to the nearer or farther surroundings happening on a regular basis in order to explore places of interest or take part in special events.

Throughout the year there are festivals occuring every now and again which are being organized by both employees and inhabitants and awaited with pleasant anticipation. As a matter of course neighbours and friends of the house are invited, too.

The House Halmerweg is located in the midst of the spirited and colourful district Gröpelingen. The higher aim of the work in the house is the integration of the inhabitants into the existing social life there. This includes taking care of the relationships and contacts in the neighbourhood. For example there was an exhibit of works of inhabitants that are artistically creative at the adjoining hairdresser in winter 06/07.

The inhabitants are very present in the district. All in all inhabitants and employees are fond of the good co-existence here and have their share in improving the quality of life in this beautiful part of the city.
